I have these exact same Shimano shifters on my Gravity FSX bike which I’ve ridden for probably a decade. Yes, there is no barrel adjuster, but I think on low to medium end bikes ($300-$1000), this probably isn’t going to be a critical issue. It will even work on cheaper bikes as well too.The only weird thing that I’ve experienced with these shifters is that after a long period of time, it will gunk up with dirt, and you will think that either your deraillur has gone bad, or your cables have gone bad, or that you need new cable sleeves because you can’t seem to shift anymore into certain low gears. And while it is possible all those reasons are also true, it could also be that you just need to clean out these Shimano shifters with some WD-40 or some other cleaners and oil. There are some videos online on how to do this. You do not want to take this apart beyond a certain point though, as it will be impossible to put back together with normal tools/equipment.
